Where can you get... a $750 incentive towards a NEW GM Vehicle?
Sounds like Heaven? It is: Car Heaven!
To date, more than 34,000 high-polluting vehicles have been retired through
The Clean Air Foundation developed the Car Heaven program in July 2000 and it continues to be one of its most successful programs.
The Car Heaven program accelerates the retirement of older, higher
polluting vehicles by providing potential donors with incentives.
- To date, Car Heaven has successfully retired over 34,000 old, higher
polluting vehicles.
- The retirement of 34,000 vehicles amounts to emissions reductions of:
- 25,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions,
- 15,000 tonnes of carbon monoxide emissions, and
- 4,000 tonnes of smog-forming emissions.
- Imperial Oil Ltd. has been a partner in Car Heaven since 2000, providing access to Esso sites for the Car Heaven Angels to visit and talk to motorists about driving their vehicles more fuel-efficiently.
- GM Canada Ltd. partnered with the Clean Air Foundation in May 2005 to offer the $750 incentive towards the purchase or lease of a new GM vehicle.
- To date, the Car Heaven Angels have talked to over 100,000 Canadians about early vehicle retirement and driving their cars more fuel-efficiently.
- Last year, participation in Car Heaven skyrocketed: 13,000 cars were donated in 2005 alone, 3 times as many donations this year as in the past year.
- Emissions of the average Car Heaven car (model year 1990-1991) are close to that of thirty-three 2006 model years of the same size.
- The program is now operating throughout Ontario, Vancouver, the Atlantic Provinces, in Calgary and Edmonton.
- In addition to achieving significant and measurable emission reductions, Car Heaven is an excellent example of how the Clean Air Foundation has leveraged major investment and participation by the private and public sector to engage consumers in behaviour changes related to climate change.
